National minimum wage rates confirmed- 12/07/2010

From October 1st 2010, the NMW rates are set to increase as follows:

  • £5.80 to £5.93 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
  • £4.83 to £4.92 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
  • £3.57 to £3.64 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17

As expected, the government has extended the NMW to cover workers aged 21 and over. The previous qualifying age was 22.

Further to a proposal from the LPC (the Low Pay Commission); the government has also introduced an apprentice minimum wage of £2.50 per hour.
