Law Firm Advises on Establishment of Polymer Training and Innovation Centre- 12/04/2010

Shropshire law firm FBC Manby Bowdler LLP has advised City of Wolverhampton College on the establishment of the Polymer Training and Innovation Centre (PTIC), the UK’s newest training academy for the Polymer Industry in Telford, which will start offering new courses later this month (April 2010).

Gavin Southall, senior partner at FBC Manby Bowdler, which has offices in Telford, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton, advised City of Wolverhampton College on the acquisition of the business and assets of specialist polymer training provider Polymer Training Limited (PTL) which went into administration in October last year.

The college purchased PTL’s practical processing machinery including injection and blow moulding machines, together with all intellectual property and learning materials associated with PTL’s course portfolio.

FBC Manby Bowdler also advised on the lease for the new premises for the PTIC at Trevithick House, Stafford Park 4 in Telford.

The establishment of the new PTIC plugs a gap in training for learners across the country who were left without a training provider when PTL went into administration.

Director of Employer Engagement at City of Wolverhampton College, Georgina Parker, said: “It was a worrying time for learners who had worked so hard towards their qualification and faced the prospect of being unable to complete it.
“We had worked closely with PTL for many years as one of our Train to Gain sub-contractors, so were committed to giving these learners the help and assistance they needed to complete their qualification, by establishing the PTIC.”

Mr Southall said: “This is an excellent example of the public sector stepping in to ensure continuity of training in a high growth manufacturing area where private enterprise has failed.”

With 40 qualified staff in offices in Shrewsbury, Telford and Bridgnorth, FBC Manby Bowdler is one of the largest law firms in Shropshire.
