Unfair Dismissal & Costs Awards by the Tribunal- 01/10/2010

An employee obtained a finding of unfair dismissal due to technical breaches of the statutory dismissal procedure by the employer. However the Employment Tribunal found that he had significantly contributed to his own dismissal due to various acts of financial misconduct. He was therefore awarded zero compensation. The Tribunal also decided that the employee had lied when giving evidence. Therefore even though the employee obtained a finding of unfair dismissal due to technical reasons the Employment Appeal Tribunal allowed a claim for costs and expenses against the employee.
