FBCMB takes to the road for county events

26/05/2016

The top ranked agricultural law team in Shropshire is to tour the county this summer to meet with farmers and landowners at a series of rural shows.

Experts from FBC Manby Bowdler will be sharing their knowledge and advice with visitors to the events, in what could be a major year of change for the farming community amid the EU Referendum.

The Agricultural & Rural Services team will be joined by lawyers from the firm’s employment, family and wills, estates and trusts teams at the events, which start with The Arable Event near Weston Park on June 22 – which will hear from a panel debate on the Brexit issue.

The team will also be at Shropshire Young Farmers’ Club County Rally on June 25, Shrewsbury Food Festival on June 25 and 26, Newport Show on July 9, Burwarton Show on August 4, Oswestry Show on August 6 and Minsterley Show on August 20.

A long-time supporter of the county’s agricultural shows and livestock markets, the department was the only agricultural legal team in Shropshire to receive a top tier ranking in the 2015 Legal 500 guide, which recommends the best law firms and lawyers in the UK.

It is led by Partner Steven Corfield, who was the sole solicitor from the West Midlands to be named as a ‘leading individual’ in the agricultural and estates sector of the guide.

Four members of the team - Steven, Sarah Baugh, Tom Devey and Harriet Critchley - are Fellows of the Agricultural Law Association (ALA).

Steven said: “We are proud to represent many of the region's landowners and farm businesses, thanks to the extensive expertise across our department.

“There are many issues that affect land owners and farmers in our county from farm diversification, land deals and tenancies to estate and succession planning. We know that the EU Referendum is also a focus at the moment, and we expect to be seeing a lot of show visitors over the summer keen to talk about Brexit too!”

“The county shows and events are at the heart of Shropshire rural life and we always have great fun and get involved through sponsoring classes and events. We look forward to seeing existing clients and meeting new faces as well,” Steven added.
