Manufacturers seek support from legal specialists

15/06/2016

Increased legislation, employment issues and the need to protect intellectual property is leading more and more companies to seek advice from the largest corporate legal team in the region.

FBC Manby Bowdler has seen a hike both in new business and in work from existing clients, particularly manufacturers, since the start of 2016.

The firm says the trend is also partly due to business owners looking to ensure survival and succession, by avoiding potential disruption to their companies and protecting their bottom line.

Associate David Preece said the increase in business focused on issues including acquisition and disposal of companies, land and premises as well as commercial contracts and commercial dispute resolution.

“We’ve seen a significant hike in corporate business this year, ranging from employment matters and protection of intellectual property to planning and environmental law and succession planning.

“Not surprisingly, as manufacturing specialists, much of this businesses has come from industry and we were delighted this year to become a Patron of Made in the Midlands, in recognition of our heritage and connections with the region’s manufacturing and engineering industry.”

The firm’s strong manufacturing links have been further strengthened by membership of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance in 2016, and it has also become a sponsor of the innovative BLOODHOUND project, a unique attempt to break the existing land speed record.

David added: “Over our long history, we have acted for many manufacturing firms that supply the advanced manufacturing, automotive and aerospace sector.

“This is a growing sector in our region, thanks to a resurgence in the UK’s auto manufacturing which sees many of our firms support Jaguar Land Rover’s facility at i54 on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.”
