14/11/2017

Opportunities for development in the rural residential housing sector were highlighted at two recent seminars hosted by industry experts.

FBCMB Seminar

More than 75 people attended the two events at Sandon Hall in Staffordshire and Leighton Hall in Shropshire that were organised by the Country Land & Business Association, law firm FBC Manby Bowdler and private bankers C. Hoare & Co.

The two seminars also focused on the latest legislation affecting the sector with Matthew O’Connell, a Housing Advisor from the CLA, outlining how landlords need to comply with minimum energy efficiency standards.

Planning specialist Mark Turner from FBC Manby Bowdler led a session on converting agricultural buildings into residential property, with Partners Sarah Baugh and Tom Devey examining issues surrounding the sale of land for development.

The impact on residential lettings by changes to energy performance certificates and other legislation was the subject of a presentation by Senior Associate Andrew Verlander.

David Markham Senior Relationship Manager at C Hoare & Co, spoke about how estates can finance diversification projects and how the Bank is able to assist with the banking needs of Landed Estates customers.

Sarah Baugh, Lead Partner for Agriculture & Rural Services team, said: “There is a big demand nationally for more homes and planning is being granted where it was never previously thought possible.

“But there are specific issues when it comes to rural development that need consideration including financing, planning and other issues. These seminars aimed to provide information tailored to the rural housing sector and were well attended by landowners, developers, landlords and estate managers.”
