One of the best things above it being a Patron of Made In The Midlands is the networking events.
This is when all the members get together at one another's premises. These events run at least monthly and each one I attend I learn something new about the capabilities of the manufacturing base we have in the Midlands
SMB Pressings held their event at the back end of June. The metal pressings and assembly business, based in Cannock, welcomed about 50 of us, provided a great breakfast, followed by a factory tour
The main thrust of their business is producing a wide range of pressed components in ferrous and non ferrous materials. They hava a press capacity that ranges from 10 to 75 tonnes and the components are supplied either as self colour, zinc plated, powder or plastic coated.
They have a vast customer base into which they supply their storage and benching systems and are able to also offer guillotine and Press Brake facilities for sheet metal work, duct-work and all types of fabrication.
The surprise of the morning though, came as we were diverted off to another part of the factory. Having a son who is keen on drumming it with amazement as were shown where Premier Timpani and Chimes are assembled and tuned along with along with a few other exciting projects
And that for me sums up Midlands Manufacturing - yes, there are plenty of traditional firms focused on delivering excellent product within the Automotive and Aerospace sectors but let's not forget the thousands of firms manufacturing other quality products that we take for granted in our daily lives.
Looking forward to seeing what the next visit has to offer...
