Business Engagement in Schools

In case you weren't aware, to help improve business engagement within schools, the concept of Enterprise Advisors (EA) has been created.  I'm fortunate to be one, working alongside the Head of Careers at Leasowes school in Halesowen.

The theory is that if children have at least 4 opportunities to engage with businesses whilst they are at school it improves their chances of moving into high education, training or a job when they leave.

We held our latest event last Friday. Representatives from local businesses sat down for breakfast with 170 Year 7 pupils. With crib sheets to hand, the children had to ask a series of questions to try and figure out what each of us did.

I'm not sure myself or the Head of Careers knew how it would all turn out, but fair to say we we're both blown away by the energy in the room and the feedback from the children was excellent. So far I've found the role of EA extremely rewarding and would encourage others to get involved where they can.

Massive thanks to those involved: FBC Manby Bowdler, Frank Dudley Ltd, CSCM Ltd, In-Comm Training, Business In The Community, Dudley Educational Partnership, Lawrence Cleaning, DHL, Kuka Robotics, Sandvik, Investec and OMG OnLine.
