FBC Manby Bowdler provide expert legal advice covering a full range of personal and business services.  We seek to recruit exceptional people who are commercially minded, enthusiastic about what they do and committed to providing a stellar service to the Firm's clients.

We are seeking to recruit a Lichfield Diocesan Registry Assistant/Paralegal to join our exceptional team, working Part time (21 hours per week.  Working closely with the Senior Partner who is the Diocesan Registrar (senior lawyer to the Church of England Diocese of Lichfield) and being the central point of contact with the Diocese, the role comprises:

- Giving advice to clergy including the Bishops and Archdeacons, and the Board of Finance, and to 
parochial organisations about legal matters affecting the Church of England

- The management of the ecclesiastical equivalent of listed building consent (the Faculty Jurisdiction) which includes also exhumations and reservations of grave spaces, and occasionally involves Consistory Court proceedings where we act as judicial officers

- The regulation of consecrated burial grounds; in particular advising on memorials that may be introduced 
within the scope of churchyard regulations

- Dealing with procedures leading to the consecration of land and buildings

- The licensing of buildings for public worship and marriage 

- The issue of marriage licences, and advice to clergy and persons intending to marry about the particular requirements of the CofE; similarly in relation to baptism, confirmation, ordination and burial

- The registration of Orders in Council relating to the parochial divisions of the Diocese

- The maintenance of the Diocese’s Patronage Register and other Registers

- The creation of licences (equivalent to secular summary employment particulars) for clergy including 
documents pertaining to ordination, and the paperwork connected with the process of clergy parish 

- Assisting on other matters such as Clergy Discipline, child and vulnerable person safeguarding, Synodical governance, and legal matters concerning the Cathedral.

Successful applicants must have:

- Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels 

- Strong organization, administrative and prioritisation skills

- The ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision

- A flexible “can do” attitude based on excellent client service

- Excellent attention to detail ensuring accuracy at all times

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
