Q. What are planning conditions, and how are they discharged?

A. When Councils grant planning permission, they often attach conditions. 

Examples include:

- A condition requiring work to begin within 3 years

- Or to construct the development in accordance with a set of plans.

Some conditions must be discharged by the Council, such as a condition requiring a landscaping scheme to be submitted to and approved by the Council before work can start. Developers can appeal against the imposition of a condition if they are unhappy with it, or apply to have the condition amended.

Care is advised, because if a condition is not adhered to, the Council can take action.
