This week (September 9-15) is the 10th Remember a Charity week – a national campaign to encourage more people to leave a legacy to charities.
Did you know that around £10bn is donated to charities each year in the UK according to the 2019 Charities Aid Foundation report?
The most popular recipients are animal welfare and causes supporting children and young people with medical research and hospitals and hospices following closely behind.
Many of the services we take for granted locally and nationally such as hospices, animal rescue centres and cancer support wouldn’t exist without not-for-profit organisations and the work they do. More than 19,000 charities a year benefit from legacies.
But whilst the number of people who are donating is decreasing, the running costs and demands on services provided by charities are increasing, so, more than ever, charities are in need of bequests to continue their work.
