Compensation successfully awarded to an injured holiday goer
08 Mar 2024

Compensation has been successfully awarded to a holiday goer who suffered a head injury and soft tissue damage after an avoidable fall.

What was the case?

Our client was staying at a B&B holiday cottage in Wales when they sustained a fall which resulted in both a head injury as well as soft tissue damage to our client’s neck, back and legs. The holiday cottage had a picnic bench outside of which our client had been sitting at before getting up to head inside. The picnic bench was situated on a patio area which had a drainage ditch directly behind it. Our client did not realise that the drainage ditch was there and so when they stood up to leave the picnic bench, his footing slipped, and he fell backwards into the drainage ditch.

Following the incident, our client made contact with the firm and Laura Moulton, a Litigation Executive in the Personal Injury Department and member of the Serious Injuries Team, was appointed to act for the client. The owner of the holiday cottage admitted liability from the outset of Laura’s investigation which allowed for medical evidence to be obtained early. Although the client did not live or work locally to our Wolverhampton office, Laura was able to keep the client regularly informed through phone calls and emails which allowed for a smooth running of the claim process.

What was the outcome?

The case was conducted within the agreed timescales and our client received £13,000 in damages which was just over the original valuation on the claim.
