When looking at purchasing a property it is best to have a mortgage in principle in place so you know the price of the property you can afford.
It is usually a Mortgage Lender’s requirement that you instruct Solicitors to deal with the remortgage. The Solicitor will need to meet the Lenders requirements to ensure their Charge is secured on the property register and remove any current charges in favour of the old Mortgage Lender. We also help with the transfer of funds. Some mortgage lenders will instruct their own Solicitors and may still insist on you have an independent Solicitor.
Yes you can remortgage a Leasehold property but you will need to review your Lease to see if you need to make the Landlord aware of this. If so, you will then be required to serve notice to your Landlord of your remortgage which one of our legal specialists can advise you on. Your Landlord may charge you a fee for mortgaging.
