Employment Law

Injuries suffered in road traffic accidents, accidents at work or in public place, can often be life changing and can leave you suffering with a chronic pain condition for many years.

We understand that not all injuries are visible and if you are suffering from a pain condition, it can impact your everyday life with physical complications such as headaches, restricted mobility, constant pain, and sleepless nights. We also know how difficult and challenging it can be following an injury to return to work or even to care for yourself at home.

Our team of specialist lawyers have extensive knowledge of dealing with pain compensation claims and can advise on various conditions including Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) can affect any part of the body and will usually develop in one area, such as a single limb. In some cases, over time the pain can spread to other areas of the body. CRPS commonly develops in those who have suffered an injury from a road traffic accident, accident at work or a fall. There are two types of CRPS:

CRPS Type 1: Referred to as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), means there is no direct nerve damage to the affected area.

CRPS Type 2: Sometimes referred to as Causalgia, means nerve damage has occurred.

Whilst spontaneous or excess pain is the leading symptom of CRPPRS, many people experience a combination of symptoms including significant psychological distress, some of these include:

    Changes in skin

    Changes in Nail Beds

    Altered Hair Growth

    Abnormal Sweating

    Impaired Muscles

    Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a life changing condition that’s characterised by musculoskeletal pain, which is a widespread pain throughout the body. We understand that it often causes frustration for those living with the condition as well as their loved ones due to the difficulties in getting a diagnosis.

Fibromyalgia is known to develop as a result of a physical or emotional trauma with the most common causes being an injury from a road traffic accident, accident at work or in a public place or if you’ve suffered a fall. In some instances, the condition can also develop from surgery or psychological factors such as a family bereavement or breakdown in relationship.

In addition to musculoskeletal pain throughout the body, other common symptoms are:

    Extreme Sensitivity

    Muscle Stiffness

    Dizziness

    Anxiety and Depression

    Fatigue

    Headaches

    Chronic Pain Syndrome

Chronic Pain Syndrome is a term used to describe a long-term pain and is characterised by the persistence of pain that lasts for an extended period, usually longer than three to six months or continues beyond the normal healing time for an injury or illness.

Chronic Pain can be limited to a specific area or can be widespread across the body, affecting multiple regions. It is often considered a complex condition and can affect individuals physically and can have significant emotional and psychological effects, including anxiety, depression, fatigue and sleepless nights.

Chronic Pain Syndrome can be caused by various factors and can differ from person to person. Some of the most common causes can include injuries and trauma whether that be a road traffic accident, accident at work or in a public place, sports injury or a fall.

Chronic Pain can also develop from nerve damage, inflammation and other medical conditions including both Fibromyalgia and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) which more information can be found above.
